Toy cars are usually packaged in inconvenient and poorly designed plastic packaging. A great opportunity for design is lost when resorting to these forms of packaging, and packaging is something that can easily enhance the user’s experience and the value of the product itself. The design of the package can easily change the target audience, and for the American Muscle Collection, the new target audience was changed to middle aged men who would love to show off their “toys” off not only in a car show, but on their office desk as well.
The final design solution was essentially creating a showroom for the car being packaged. Many car fanatics of an older demographic take pride in showing off their favorite classic car and the package for each toy does just that. The mirrored backdrop for the car allows the viewer to see more angles of the car while still in the package, featuring that specific car’s logo and “American Muscle Collection” embossed at the top. The car is displayed at a slight angle to show off more angles of the car, and the blurred stripes of color on the outside of each package are meant to evoke the speed of blurred lights as if the car was speeding past you.
